Tournament
display
The
audience is seated and waiting, full of expectation. Suddenly the music starts
and the knights come galloping in on their snorting and eager horses. They salute
the cheering crowd with flying banners and then impatiently head for their teams.
Let the fight begin
A tournament consists of many different parts and a number of people who
work together to create an entertaining show. The most important ones are
of course the knights and their horses, but there are other people in the
arena as well; the foot crew who put the targets out, squires who care for
the knights and get them their weapons and so on. Sometimes even the witch
Mira might turn up and rebuke those who don't keep outside of the safety ropes.
Murderous types sneak about, staring at each other and their enmity often
results in a fight to the death with shining weapons.
We have our own complete equipment regarding sound and lights and we don't
have to hire anyone else to do a display. In the group there are knights,
ground crew, herald (speaker), jesters, fire breathers and stunt fighters.
We can design a show completely according to the wishes of the persons who
hire us.
Tournament
events
Banner
run
In this event it's a great advantage to have a fast horse. The knights compete
against members of the other team and they start at the same time. The knight
who first gets hold of his banner has won.
Moor's
head
This is really practice for fighting foot soldiers. The knight rides to the
dummy with the target for a head and must then split this with his sword. The
target can be for example a head of cabbage, a melon or an apple.
Low
rings
Five rings sits in a row on a structure, fifty centimeters above the ground.
The knight must bend down and try to get as many as possible on his sword.
Quintan
The quintan is a structure with two arms. On the right one there is a shield
and from the other one hangs a heavy ball. The knight must hit the shield with
his lance and make it spinn at least one lap but at the same time avoid the
ball hitting his back or head.
Duel
quintan
At the end of each one of the duel quintan's two arms is a ring. When one ring
is removed, it causes also the other one to fall down. I this event the teams
fight each other and the knights must be the first one to get the ring on their
lance before it is pushed down by the opponents to score points.
High
rings
Three rings are hung from high stands, placed alongside the tilt line. The first
ring is fifteen centimeters in diameter, the second ring ten and the last one
only five centimeters in diameter. The weapon is most often a spear, but to
increase the difficulty the knights can ride with lance, helmet and shield.
Head
spearing
This event is really practice for picking up fallen enemies' heads off the battlefield.
The knight must spear the target laying on the ground.
Jousting
This event is the most dangerous of them all but also the most exciting. The
knights ride at each other with helmet and lance and must try to shatter their
lances against the opponent's shield. Here it's important to be brave!
Fire
display
The
Celeres Nordica is one of few groups that also offers exciting evening displays
in the lights of torches, where the knights storm into the arena through fire
and smoke, the targets are on fire and fire breathers fill the air with heat.
Together with mysterious music this becomes a magical experience!
In the fire display the ground crew play a big part when they contribute
to the more fired up parts of the show; juggling the fire staff, poi and burning
chains and breathing fire.
Fire
display events
Torch
run
Similar to banner run. The knight who gets to his torch before the opponent
reaches his, wins.
Moor's head
Hitting the target can be difficult enough in daylight, but here the apple is
also on fire to make it even more exciting.
Low rings
Three burning rings are placed fifty centimeters from the ground, and the
knight must bend down and get as many of the rings as possible.
Quintan
Normally the knight must watch out for the ball coming after him when he hits
the swing arm, and since the ball now is on fire his horse must be faster
than usual
High ring
A burning ring is mounted above the head of the knight, and he must pick it
with a spear.
Head spearing
The knight picks up the burning target with his spear.
Jousting
The
Celeres Nordica is alone in Sweden to do jousting for real, the hits and wins
are not pre-decided. We are the only group with time true armor with enough
experience and skill to perform this. The knights ride against each other at
their own signal and the idea is to splinter the lance against the opponent's
shield. This events has high demand son security and therefore the rider must
be able to handle lance and horse and at the same time keep a cool head.
Fighting
The
Celeres Nordica has a number of stunt fighters who can perform fights with real
swords, both mounted and on the ground.
Crest
melee
This
event is also called crest fight and is a fun element. It means that each knight
has a removable crest on his helmet, and all participants are given a sword-like
weapon. The idea is to hit the crests off the other's helmets but keep your
own. The last man standing with the crest still on his helmet is declared winner
of the melee. The weapons can range from wooden sticks to real swords, preferred
by us. It's possible to do this with real swords when our knights are equipped
with steel helmets and mail, compared to other groups where they use aluminum
helmets and knitted shirts.
Gosskören
(The Boy's Choir)
At
a banquet or such our adult boys can entertain with singing, dancing and other
crazy ideas.
